Sofia Baldi Pighi

Sofia Baldi Pighi will teach Phenomenology of Contemporary Art in the NOMAD Master’s Program at MADE.

She is an Italian curator and PhD candidate based between Milan (Italy) and Gozo (Malta). Since 2017, her curatorial research has focused on the intersections between art, historical heritage, and militant politics, through contemporary art exhibitions, public programs, and art therapy workshops.

She is the Artistic Director and Head Curator of the Malta Biennale 2024, Insulaphilia, curated together with Emma Mattei and Elisa Carollo, and promoted by Heritage Malta under the patronage of UNESCO. She was part of the curatorial team for the first Italian National Pavilion – What Does Water Dream When It Sleeps? – at the 14th Gwangju Biennale in South Korea, curated by Valentina Buzzi and promoted by the Italian Cultural Institute in Seoul, with the support of the Embassy of Italy in Korea, the Quadriennale di Roma, and the European Media Art Platform, co-funded by the European Union.

Since 2023, she has been a curator for Una Boccata d’Arte, a nationwide contemporary art project promoted by Fondazione Elpis in collaboration with Galleria Continua and Threes Productions.

Through exhibitions, conferences, and workshops, she has collaborated with numerous institutions and universities, including UNESCO-WHIPIC, Triennale Milano, Larnaca Biennale (Cyprus), MOKA Museum (Republic of Korea), Mulhouse Biennale (France), Quadriennale di Roma, National Archaeological Museum of Naples (MANN), Complesso Monumentale della Pilotta (Parma), University of Naples “L’Orientale”, Brera Academy of Fine Arts (Milan), Swiss Institute (Milan), XNL (Piacenza), and Virgilio Sieni’s Academy of the Art of Gesture (Florence).

She is an active member of Art Workers Italia (AWI) and IKT – International Association of Curators of Contemporary Art, and contributes to several national and international publications, including NERO, Exibart, Modern Times, and Fakewhale.
