WEFTS TRA-ME

The project starts from an in-depth study of carpet weaving techniques, a master craft that has been part of the Sicilian culture and artisan tradition for centuries. As the weft binds to the warp, people should also bind / join together until they become a collective, a group that thinks about its future, with the aim of having a healthy and clean world, the world we all would like. The intent of the project is to inform and raise awareness about plastic pollution. The project therefore constitutes a textile manifesto which, through the ancient art of hand weaving, denounces an environmental problem.

POSSIBLE FUTURE’S

A third of all plastic produced in the world each year, around 110 million tons, is lost in nature, mainly in the sea. If the situation  remains unchanged, by 2030 the burden of plastic pollution will double and the oceans will be the most affected habitats. It seems impossible to imagine, but what if it really happened? Plastic would take over, sand would be replaced by grains of plastic waste, and marine life would be nearly extinct, if not mutated. The project aims to stimulate a shared reflection, with the objective of raising awareness of humans, the architects of this environmental catastrophe.
