NATURAL PACKAGINGS
The art of weaving dates to Neolithic times, when woven artifacts were means of transport. Today, handmade baskets are real collector's items with a more aesthetic than practical function. By recovering the ancient techniques of Sicilian basket making, the thesis has as its objective the design of artifacts made through the interweaving of dwarf palm leaves. The latter consists of two types of leaf, in dialect we would say "a scupara" and "a curina": the first is used to weave brooms, while the second is used to weave crow’s nests, baskets and hats.
WASTE EMERGENCY: DEGRADATION OF THE EARTH'S SURFACE
Every year, worldwide, according to ISWA data, we throw away 2 billion tons of USW (Urban Solid Waste). This staggering amount of waste is partly due to the fact that 99% of the things we buy get trashed within 6 months. The thesis project, through an installation of all the products that pass through our hands every day, highlights the enormous quantities of waste that each inhabitant of the world produces every week. The aim is to raise community awareness, in order to try to solve the environmental problems related to marine and atmospheric pollution.
