Raffaele Ariano teaches History of Cinema at the MADE Program, Academy of Fine Arts in Syracuse.
He also lectures in the Philosophy and Art History programs at the Vita-Salute San Raffaele University in Milan. His academic and research background is distinctly interdisciplinary, bridging contemporary philosophy, film aesthetics, and literary theory. During his doctoral studies in philosophy, he conducted research at the Freie Universität in Berlin. He later earned a second master's degree in Film Aesthetics from the University of Oxford and a diploma in screenwriting from the Civica Scuola di Cinema Luchino Visconti in Milan. Raffaele is the author of two books, Morte dell’uomo e fine del soggetto. Indagine sulla filosofia di Michel Foucault (Rubbettino 2014) and Filosofia dell’individuo e romanzo moderno. Lionel Trilling tra critica letteraria e storia delle idee (Edizioni Storia e Letteratura, 2019). He also co-translated and edited Lionel Trilling's Sincerità e autenticità with Andrea Tagliapietra (Moretti & Vitali 2018). His current research focuses particularly on the works of Ludwig Wittgenstein and Stanley Cavell.
