Francesco Lucifora is a lecturer in Modern Art History, Contemporary Art History, and Phenomenology of Contemporary Art at the Academy of Fine Arts of Siracusa MADE Program.
Born in Modica, he studied Sociology at La Sapienza University of Rome, specializing in Communication and Mass Media. In 2007, he attended the master's program in Museum Curatorship and Contemporary Art Performative Events at IED in Rome, the Advanced Training Course in Cultural Funding and Project Management at the Luigi Sturzo Institute in Rome, and the specialized course "The Explosive Factory: Experimental Audiovisuals" at Galleria Toledo in Naples. Since 2009, he has been the co-founder and director of CoCA - Center of Contemporary Arts_Archive and Library of Contemporary Arts in Modica, where he created the formats: Something for your mind, Videocards_the thoughts of artists, Monograph, and Vplatform. In 2009, he taught at the master's program for museum curators at IED in Rome. In 2010, he was a visiting professor for Real Presence, an international workshop at Kulturni Center Grad in Belgrade. Since 2012, he has been a research fellow at the "Latest Trends in Visual Arts" chair of Prof. Daniela Bigi at the Academy of Fine Arts in Palermo, with a research project on video art and sound art. He teaches Art Management at the Academy of Fine Arts in Catania.
As an independent curator, he has collaborated with public and private institutions, working closely with artists such as Hans Schabus, Marinella Senatore, Massimo Bartolini, Flavio Favelli, Zafos Xagoraris, Mouse On Mars, Carmelo Nicosia, Luca Vitone, Stefania Zocco, and Rosario Antoci. He writes for Artforum, Arte e Critica, and La Sicilia. His interests range from the underground music culture rooted in the rave movement of the 1990s to artistic displays from the 1960s to today, as well as the transformations in cultural and visual processes and the innovation of exhibition practices.
