“I see couture as an escape from capitalism, investigating the life cycle, disrupting it through upcycling of clothing and other materials, in relation to globalization and consumerism.” (Rafael Kouto)
An upcycling project coordinated by Rafael Kouto, aimed at giving new life and value to used clothes. Starting from an analysis of modern techniques of fashion upcycling, from a focus on contemprary African artists and iconographic research aimed at exploiting the backgrounds of the participants, students workedon the development of an article of clothing using remnants of fabric and other materials.
