LET’S SKATE

Academic Year

A new set of concrete elements for the skaters' community

A few months ago, the first Skate Park in Syracuse saw the light - in Fontane Bianche.

Hence the idea - in the wake of the projects carried out the past two years at the former Carmelite convent - to give life to a second 'flexible' space, capable of hosting, even in Ortigia, fans of this sporting discipline.

This year the project sees the involvement of “Cantiere Aperto: a collective urban practice” an itinerant project by Frantoio Sociale (studio GISTO and Hund Studio) which aims to set up small manufacturings of urban artifacts through the transformation of waste materials, to promote urban transformation as a collective and collaborative activity and giving people the chance to take action on public space (the elements built during the workshop will inspire future transformations, evoke affection and encourage environmental consciousness).

The core of the program will be the design, development, and realization of a series of skate devices through the reuse of reclaimed building materials and wooden planks from pallets, to build wooden formwork for concrete construction.

The course will be divided into two parts. The first introductory and theoretical part will be based on the analysis and presentation of a series of projects in the urban and circular economy field, to prepare the second phase of the course which will be workshop-based.

Alessandro Mason will carry out the design, material recovery and formwork construction phase, while the final part of preparation and pouring of cement into the formwork and finishing will be carried out by Hypereden (Cristian Del Giudice and Davide Sala).
