ESPERIDIA
Esperidia Agrumi in Upcycling is a project with a strong Sicilian identity, focused on a circular economy study starting from pastazzo. To date, citrus waste is equivalent to 50% of the product consumed, around 1 million tons a year in Italy. Starting from an in-depth research study, divided into three phases - historical and iconographic research on what citrus was in the past and is today, research on the history of packaging, highlighting the most common shapes for citrus fruits, and experimental research, creating recycled paper and bioplastics - the project aims to analyze the chemical-physical properties of citrus peel, transforming it into new design materials.
