Ron Gilad conducted a workshop in Product Design at MADE for students attening the BA Design course.
Ron Gilad was born in Tel Aviv in 1972. In 2001, he moved to New York, where he ran his studio for 12 years. He currently lives and works between Tel Aviv and Milan.
Gilad's hybrid objects combine materiality with aesthetic playfulness, balancing on a “fat” and delightful line between the abstract and the functional. His works explore the relationship between an object and its function, challenging our perceptions. These creations, ranging from unique editions to limited series to industrially produced pieces, are designed to be timeless and are included in both public and private collections worldwide.
Gilad persistently asks questions in 3D form, crafting responses that create a space for productive doubt. Metaphorically, Gilad is a linguist who creates his own language. He learns the origins of “words” and develops “synonyms.”
In 2013, he was named Designer of the Year by both Wallpaper and Elle Décor. His projects for the Italian industry have also won numerous awards.
